WTF? too funny to be in the Carolinas!

While looking into water collection I came across this bizarre image:

The Gaffeny, SC water tower!

Competition to design a shed

I'm doing this project to design a garden shed. Objective: must look COOL! also, I recently decided that it will collect water on the roof and store it in a tank for soothing, low-pressure, gravity-feed garden hose action.

SO: I liked the way they do these little profiles in the "Skillful Huntsman" book I have. They are fast and if you don't produce an interesting variety of shapes, they look crappy.

THEN: Then I picked one of the stronger designs and riffed on it solely for the purpose of generating unique visual ideas. The water tank thing will be now be blended in.

More later!

Set design that doesn't make sense.

This was a project for my perspective drawing class.
I didn't make an interesting space so I just "dressed the set" a lot.
Those paintings are from a color theory assignment, where we made watercolor paintings of the same scene in different seasons.

Community College!

Late in the evening...working on my Color Theory final project: key a Beatrix Potter illustration to colors chosen from one of four Snow White backgrounds by Maurice Noble. You can see the beginnings of my final painting, which is required along with a value study and two color studies (one warm, one cool). I like painting in the kitchen at night.

Painting a Conceptual Device

I did this with one brush(in different sizes) in photoshop. I wanted to keep a painterly quality in the image, so it's all tablet painted, no paths. Its a portable device with a semi- transparent screen...don't know what will be on the screen yet, probably grocery lists. I'm going to do A LOT of quick renderings this year for thesis, so I'm trying out different styles. What do you think?

All Hail the Mighty Caldor, Keeper of the Peace!

I gave Caldor some value with my snazzy set of Letraset Tria markers(thanks Dave). I'm going to color him up now! He's a benevolent king who keeps pomegranate juice in the end of his staff. Also, he's 1000 years old and has several sets of legs to choose from.

Preparing to make a Daffy Duck maquette...

For my perspective class, our assignment is to sculpt a Looney Tunes character, and I've chosen Daffy Duck. I watched the cartoon, "Rabbit Seasoning" about six times through tonight, pausing to make sketches of Daffy. Then I started to animated a turnaround of him, but I didn't have the patience to see it through. I will start sculpting tomorrow.

Let's Go!

Monster time! This guy would make a great dancer...or maybe pianist...

Drawing Dump

Paul and I promised that there would be more posts in July than any previous month. Let's stop making July so lame!

Paul, you can go to Iowa with Winnie for $950 including EVERYTHING--airfare, hotel, car. I just bought a package tonight and am throwing the bus ticket in the trash (non refundable boo hoo).

Life drawings and sketchbook doodles from this summer so far.
