More torso sketches

Did i say I was going to do 10 pages of these? They take about an hour each. I'll do one more and then see if there is any noticeable improvement.

Something I sketched for me.

Making expressive torso gestures requires knowing the basic positions of balance in the typical use of the body. Not there yet. Maybe about 10 more sheets of these and I'd be going somewhere. I've announced to myself that I'm going to apply for the Pixar internship in April one last time--at the very least it will whip me into making a tighter portfolio design.

Something I sketched for work ...

A very fast sketch -- preliminary for a yet-to-be-completed icon on the LONI (Lab of Neuro Imaging) web page.
What a silly job, making pictures like this.

Forgot to post this one.

I did it last week. Testing out some strong silhouettes.

Flower!

I didn't paint the flowers I bought yet. This is just a warmup.
The flowers I did buy are kalanchoes and some yellow roses ($5 and $4, respectively from Trader Joe's).

icon for work

Stole the lock image from a windows vista pack. Just made the photos with layer blend modes and put it all together in Photoshop. Classy work!

Cards, Cards, Cards

So my sister and her boyfriend are trying to start this online service that sends out cards for customers for various occasions, and I am designing some cards for her. Above is the first one I have done so far. I have done this in the past for her friend's wedding "Save the Date" card (the color is not displaying how it should). Below is that card using some photoshop brushes I found online. Since those brushes are copyrighted I traced it and changed it a little- I have to finish it up and add text.

a Room in a House on a Hill on the Shore

I was waiting in a bar near home for someone, and decided to break out the ol' Moleskine. I reached for my trusty black felt pen, but it was dead. Next up, the Hitec. I'll admit that this was my first time really working the pen on one drawing, but over the 20 minutes or so I spent on this I learned a few things. The pen leaks a little at the start, something I struggled with early. The texture abilities through its consistency are limitless. The fineness or exactness of the point is unmatched in writing implements I have ever used. So, an assist to Dave for this post, well done. Retrospect-wise, perhaps I should have spent 15 minutes on this rather than 20, but whatever it was fun regardless.

Strange Project

I'm trying to cover more aspects of storytelling per outing.

Whip Spin

I am having a bit of fun doing motion graphics moves.

A strange scene...

This seems like it could be the beginning of a very interesting interactive political cartoon. Project idea?

Strange drawing while on the phone with Paul.

Wilford, refined

I rushed a little towards the end, but its a start. Much, much happier with the overall proportion and placement of things. The shadow and detail should be developed further.

Trying out some fundamentals

I tried to be patient and construct the whole sequence out of a box, but I couldn't do it.

Wilford, the Animanatee

1. Concept sketches...one to be refined...my initial sights are focused on the smaller guy in the lower left.
2. I declare that manatees are fun to draw, and Wilford Brimley looks like one.
3. Obviously my hand is in need of work, but I felt more confident as I went along. So I've got that going for me. Maybe I'll do my next post idea entirely left handed. Then I can completely start over as an artist, clean slate. And, I'll be properly equipped for the consequences of frequent, awkward mouse use.

February!

I made a film with a couple of friends.
