I'm not sure if I like where this is going or not. I did bring it a little further than this, but became frightened, that the style of the drawing was getting lost in a cloud of PhotoShop techniques. I might just shade it all delicately with pencil...dark with highlights.
Thoughts?

I am really into the circle patterns.
Also into the larger composition (the way the branches mirror the roots across the grass). Also, the tree trunk looks like a sophisticated form with those winding contours going into the pit. What are those tree windows called? Graceful transition from the trunk into the roots, too.
However, I could only see the darker lines of the tree and root contours at first, and didn't realize that every branch had mass. So I think you should bring out the lighter tree lines a little bit. You could probably do it by adjusting levels in Photoshop.
The Photoshop effect has nice colors but the thicknesses and saturation are definitely obscuring the sense of the branch contours.
I would try a mock-watercolor technique, layering color with perhaps 20-30% opacity (you can do this in Photoshop or Painter or ArtRage or something). That way you can also bring in some greens, browns, etc, and still have a larger theme involving red and orange, if that's what you're going for. Also, it'd be cool if the sky and soil had background colors that somehow worked into the whole composition.
Isn't drawing branches a relaxing exercise?
